In the Bible, wood is a symbol of life, fertility, prosperity, strength, and a representation of progress, because it shows that we grow stronger and stronger as time goes by. This is also a reference to where Our Lady first appeared: on top of a holm oak tree.

History of Our Lady of Fátima

In 1917, in the small village of Fátima, Portugal, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to three shepherd children: Lucia, Jacinta, and Francisco. Between May and October, on the 13th of each month, the children reported seeing a luminous Lady who brought messages of prayer, peace, and devotion to the world.

During these apparitions, Our Lady entrusted the children with three secrets and called for prayer, especially the Rosary, as a path to conversion and hope for humanity.

The final apparition, on October 13, 1917, was witnessed by tens of thousands of people who had gathered in Fátima, Portugal. Many reported seeing the extraordinary Miracle of the Sun, a phenomenon in which the sun appeared to dance across the sky.

Today, the Sanctuary of Fátima, Portugal stands as one of the most important Catholic pilgrimage sites in the world, welcoming millions of pilgrims each year who come to pray, honor Our Lady of Fátima, and seek her message of peace.
