Barcelos metal Rooster

Rooster of Barcelos, traditional symbol of Portugal.

In metal, unbreakable, hand painted.

12cm

The authorities arrested a pilgrim, despite his pledges of innocence, about a past crime.

Sentenced to death on the gallows, the man asked to be taken to the presence of the judge who had condemned him. The Galician again affirmed his innocence and pointed to a roast rooster that was on the table and exclaimed:

- "It is so right that I am innocent, how certain that cock is to sing when they hang me!"

When the pilgrim was being hanged, the rooster rose on the table and sang. Realizing his mistake, the judge ran to the gallows and discovered that the Galician was saved thanks to a badly made knot. The man was immediately released and sent in peace.
